Health authorities in Pakistan have confirmed that three people have been diagnosed with monkeypox in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) region. These patients had recently returned from an Arab country.
Pakistan has had cases of monkeypox before, but it is not clear which type of the virus these patients have. Because of this, health officials are being extra careful.
After the first case was found in Peshawar, airport checks across the country were made stricter to stop the virus from spreading. The government has also told hospitals to prepare special isolation wards, stock up on antiviral medicines, and make sure healthcare workers have protective gear.
Health workers are now checking other people who were in close contact with the patients to see if they have the virus. The government is also keeping a close watch at all entry points into the country.
This is the first case of monkeypox in Pakistan this year. Last year, the country had 10 cases, all linked to travelers from the Middle East and other areas. Health officials are emphasizing the importance of strong border checks to prevent more cases from entering Pakistan.
In a recent meeting, it was noted that monkeypox is spreading in other parts of the world, including some African countries that had not seen the virus before. This shows that the virus is spreading to new areas.
