Pakistan commended the United Nations for its report on war crimes in Gaza, confirming Israel's use of starvation as warfare and intentional targeting of civilians. The report, by the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry, also highlighted violations by Palestinian armed groups and Israel.
Israel's military actions followed a Hamas attack on Oct. 7, leading to international criticism for being disproportionate and causing numerous civilian casualties. The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is addressing genocide charges against Israel.
Pakistan's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, urged accountability for Israel’s actions and called for an immediate ceasefire and end to the conflict in Gaza. She also supported the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2735 for a permanent ceasefire.
The UN report, based on interviews from both sides, emphasized adherence to international law to prevent further violence. Chair Navi Pillay stressed halting Israel's operations in Gaza and for Hamas to cease attacks and release hostages, citing violations of international law.
