India is set to prioritize resolving its longstanding border issues with #China, announced Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Tuesday as he began his second term in office.
This commitment comes in the wake of Prime Minister #NarendraModi's recent swearing-in for a historic third term, which was marked by a ceremony attended by leaders from seven regional countries, underscoring India's "neighbourhood first" policy.
India and China, which share a 3,800 km (2,400 mile) border, have had strained relations, particularly following the 1962 war and the deadly 2020 #military clashes in which at least 20 Indian soldiers and four #Chinese troops were killed.
"Our focus with regard to China will be on finding a solution for the border issues that still continue," Jaishankar told reporters.
