There is the EDB Annual Meeting and Business Forum scheduled for June 27 – 28 in Almaty, Kazakhstan where the topic to be discussed is the Cross-Border Transport Corridors in Eurasia. Currently the EDB is operating for Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan. This year’s forum session, “The Eurasian Transport Network: The paper “Potential, Challenges, and Solutions” shall therefore endeavor to assess a report on the development of these fundamental corridors.
As a result the paper raises such impediments connected to geographical location of Central Asian nations being far away from global networks and being located in the heart of the continent that makes trade costs 40% higher comparing to coastal states. Better connection through transport channels can therefore be seen to be a very fundamental driver to the development of Central Asian economies.
It connects East-West and North-South to form new strands, and logistic possibilities as well as improved tariffs. According to the EDB, the freight traffic by three main axes in Central Asia might rise by up to two thirds and reach 1. To reach the set goal of 40 million containers (TEU) excluding China by the year 2030, it is crucial for all the countries in the project to work together.
